Overview
See more, learn more, do more with S & S Tours. This company was formed to provide a safe, informative, in-depth and fun traveling experience for visitors to Mexico, Costa Rica, and South America. S & S Tours offers small escorted group tours and provides daily departures for independent travelers for all of its destinations.
The company has been featured in the New York Times, Sunset Magazine, Bottom Line Newsletter, National Geographic Today TV Program and the International Travel Review TV Program.
Mexico is Sue’s passion. The owner, Sue Stilwell, guides most of the groups, giving personal attention to her clients. She and her guides are fluent in Spanish and English and have traveled, worked and studied in Latin America for over 30 years. Her genuine appreciation of the Latin American people and her warmth and enthusiasm provide the base for a great traveling experience and unique long-term relationships. “Susy’s groups” feel very welcome and special wherever they go.
Personal attention, small groups, and in-depth interpretation of the history and culture instead of just “seeing the sights” set S & S Tours apart. The average tour of eight people is active, educational, interesting and allows time to unwind, relax and get to know each other. Personal care and attention help create a group camaraderie not found on most tours. The company has “friends” returning two to three times for the same trip! One client has been on 15 different tours. Clients often say: “We would go anywhere with you!” Clients take home wonderful and lasting memories.
Ecologically and culturally sensitive to the land and people, S & S Tours has a positive impact on the areas visited. They get involved in projects that benefit the local communities wherever they go. In Mexico’s Copper Canyon, S & S Tours takes volunteers to a Tarahumara Indian Boarding School where they give medical attention to the children and staff, and help with educational projects and building projects.
Specializing in Mexico’s Copper Canyon Rail Tours year round, you can go in a small escorted group tour or on your own independent itinerary. The Reader’s Digest claims the Copper Canyon Railroad is “the most dramatic train ride in the Western Hemisphere.” Imagine yourself in Copper Canyon on a train winding its way from the Pacific Ocean into the heart of the majestic, rugged western Sierra Madre Mountain Range, going through 87 tunnels and over 39 bridges with a 180 loop inside the mountain at one point. Meet the shy Tarahumara Indians; witness the vast, awesome views while you stay at the best hotels in the canyon system.
On the Maya Route by Rail, ride the private luxury Expreso Maya train along Chichen-Itza, Uxmal, Edzna and Palenque archaeological sites, complete with jungles and hidden waterfalls and to the 20-ton Olmec heads at La Venta Archaeological Park.
Travel to a peaceful forest in central Mexico and allow hundreds of Monarch Butterflies to land on you and to cascade around you as they exercise during their winter migration. S & S also visits the many folk art villages around Lake Patzcuaro.
Archeology, Folk Art and Cuisine in Oaxaca finds you appreciating the varied cultures, folk-art and the fascinating archaeological sites. Take a cooking class with an Oaxaca restaurant owner.
On the Mexico’s Colonial Cities Learning Tour, re-live the colorful colonial and revolutionary history of this country in Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende and Queretarro.
On the Costa Rica Natural History Learning Adventure glide down waterways with exotic birds, caimans and perhaps a rare manatee. Explore jungle mysteries or a live volcano or simply enjoy swimming in luxurious pools while sipping exotic fruit drinks of all descriptions.
Explore Rails and Ruins and Incas in Machu Picchu and Peru. Cruise Lake Titicaca at the top of the world and visit the snow-capped Andes as you intermingle with today’s Incas. The Galapagos Islands are an optional extension to the Peru tour.
The tour to Magnificent Spain will likely be repeated in two to three years while Guatemala is next on the list for new upcoming tours.
S & S Tours welcomes the opportunity to work with travel agents.
