Southern Exposure Tours’ unique adventure and cultural tours have been designed from first-hand experience, passion and respect for the areas they currently operate in. Tours involve a dedicated team of local guides, porters, cooks, and all the people whom make being there possible. This rapport has been forged over the years through mutual respect given and received.
Value for Money
As unique adventure specialists, Southern Exposure Tours will not stay in five-star resorts as it just isn't their style. However, they do include many activities, excursions, highlight dinners and a free t-shirt or photo CD at the end. You will find that you do not have to constantly dive into you pocket for additional expenses.
No hidden costs will be sprung upon you on arrival. All transport and hotel content is included while on the tour as well as most continental breakfasts, some highlighted dinners, and a number of excursions. Southern Exposure Tours also throws in a lot of laughs at no extra cost.
Tours
When you only have a few weeks to do and see as much as possible, these tours will allow you to do simply that. Southern Exposure Tours takes care of the small but important details that can be a bit of a hassle when traveling in a foreign country where a different language is spoken. While they try and incorporate interesting off the beaten track excursions, they also realize that you are traveling a long way and want to see the highlights as well, so that you get the most out of your valuable time away.
Southern Exposure Tours has designed tours with quality in mind as opposed to quantity and there is a 12-person maximum to ensure a low impact approach. While there are always some included activities in the tours, they are also conducted in a way that allows free time to pursue your own interests and have a bit of space.
Traveling in a small group adventure with like-minded people is a rewarding experience and great friendships are formed. Southern Exposure Tours has several different unique adventures catering to all levels of fitness.
Accommodations
Personally selected, clean, comfortable, and locally owned accommodations are utilized. As Southern Exposure Tours does not charge a single supplement, most nights are on a twin-share basis (depending on the male/female ratio), but due to the nature of the travels, accommodations vary with some multi-share nights required, although this is not Southern Exposure’s normal practice, and tents while on camping segments. Some accommodations have a little more character due to their remoteness. Pre and post-tour accommodations can be reserved in advance.
Transport
All transport is included in the tour price unless on optional excursions. While on tour, Southern Exposure’s goal is to offer you as much variety as possible while meeting the local people. Unique adventure travel means that you will be using local public buses, mini buses, taxis, train, various boats, motorized and dug-out canoes and aircraft. There will also be some trekking. Optional excursions may use other forms of transport, for example horses or mountain bikes.
It’s Not Always About Them
Some of the many joys traveling with S.E.T. are meeting the people, making new friends and experiencing different cultures. In order to do this, Southern Exposure Tours must treat people and places with the same respect they would expect in their own countries. Everyone has a responsibility to minimize the impact on the places they live and the people and places visited and enjoyed.
It’s the old saying of “treat people as you would want to be treated yourself”, and to make sure that all you leave behind are good impressions and a few footprints. By using common sense in regards to environmental and cultural issues, by employing local people and utilizing local transport, hotels and services, Southern Exposure Tours is practicing and contributing towards responsible and sustainable tourism.
It’s About the Environment, Too
By being Internet-oriented, Southern Exposure Tours aims to minimize the use of products that impact on the environment. They have included all the information you require within this site, with the goal of not having to produce enormous amounts of brochures and associated printing which in turn uses large amounts of paper and resources. The paper they do use is recycled and Southern Exposure Tours supports ongoing efforts of the recycling industry.
Southern Exposure Tours actively encourages you while on their tours to: - Buy glass when possible as it is reused.
- Treat drinking water as opposed to buying a new plastic bottle of mineral water every time.
- Buy products that don’t contribute rubbish to the environment.
- Take back to your country any used batteries and rubbish of a similar nature for recycling.
Southern Exposure Tours realizes that it’s not always possible to do some of the above but if you start to make the effort, you will be setting an example and every little bit helps. What you do makes a difference!

Payments Accepted
Reservation Policy
All clients must complete a reservation form and, for clients over the age of 60 years, a medical form dated and signed by their physician. All forms should then be sent to Southern Exposure Tours with a deposit of $500 NZD/$400 USD. Balance of the tour payment is due 60 days prior to departure date.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be made in writing. The date when the letter is received by Southern Exposure Tours will determine the cancellation charges applicable. The cancellation charges below are a percentage of the total tour price, excluding insurance. For cancellations: - More than 60 days before departure - Loss of deposit.
- 60-14 days before departure: 50%
- 14 days before departure: 100%
